ELEHEAR makes app-fitted, rechargeable OTC hearing aids. Its Beyond Pro earned a HearAdvisor Grade A in independent lab testing and streams calls from iPhone and Android.
The ELEHEAR Beyond Pro is our top over-the-counter hearing aid, and the reason is measured, not marketed. In independent HearAdvisor lab testing it earned a SoundScore of 4.8 out of 5 (Grade A), one of the highest results for any OTC aid. Its score for speech in noise is more than double the original Beyond’s, and noisy rooms are where most hearing aid users struggle. It also streams phone calls and audio from both iPhone and Android, and runs about a full day per charge.
The catch is that it is an app-first hearing aid. You fit it yourself with a hearing test on your phone, and the best results come from tuning it in the app. If your parent has no smartphone and no family member nearby to help, a button-only aid such as the MDHearing VOLT 4 is easier to live with. It is also larger than many aids and suits only mild-to-moderate hearing loss.
For most people who can manage the app, the Beyond Pro is the best value in OTC hearing aids right now. The cheaper Beyond is a good budget alternative if noisy rooms are not your main problem.

The ELEHEAR range: Beyond Pro, Beyond, Delight and Beyond 2 Pro
ELEHEAR sells several over-the-counter models. The list prices below are per pair from ELEHEAR, as reported by SeniorLiving.org in October 2026. ELEHEAR often discounts direct, and prices on Amazon can differ.
Which to choose: the Beyond Pro for most people, because of its much better speech-in-noise result. The Beyond if budget matters and you mostly listen in quiet rooms. The Delight only if a small earbud style matters more to you than battery life. The newer Beyond 2 Pro costs considerably more, and we have not yet seen published independent lab results for it.
| Model | Style | Battery | Streaming | List price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Beyond Pro | Receiver in canal | ~20–24 hours | iPhone + Android | ~$599 |
| Beyond | Receiver in canal | ~18–20 hours | iPhone + Android | ~$399 |
| Delight | In-the-ear earbud style | ~13.5 hours | Yes (extra steps) | ~$369 |
| Beyond 2 Pro | Receiver in canal | ~24 hours | iPhone + Android | ~$799 |
Are ELEHEAR hearing aids good? What the lab found
HearAdvisor is an independent lab that measures hearing aids on a manikin in realistic sound scenes. Its published results for the Beyond Pro: a SoundScore of 4.8 out of 5 and a Grade A, placing it in the top 5% of devices it has tested, and a 2025 Expert Choice award.
- Speech in quiet: 4.3 out of 5
- Speech in noise: 3.6 out of 5, against 1.7 for the original Beyond
- Feedback (whistling) control: 5.0 out of 5
- Music streaming: 3.8 out of 5
- Own voice: 1.2 out of 5, so your own voice may sound unnatural with the closed domes
What that means: the Beyond Pro measurably helps you follow speech where hearing is hardest. For comparison, independent testing graded the MDHearing NEO XS a C. HearingTracker’s reviewer also noted occasional clicks in changing environments and wind noise outdoors. No OTC aid is perfect.
ELEHEAR Beyond vs Beyond Pro
They look and fit the same: both are receiver-in-canal aids with the same app, 5 listening programs, AI noise reduction, Bluetooth streaming on iPhone and Android, and an IPX5 rating. The differences that matter:
- Speech in noise: the Pro scored 3.6 against 1.7 for the Beyond in HearAdvisor’s lab. That is the main reason to pay more.
- Battery: the Pro runs a little longer per charge.
- Extended bandwidth: the Pro reproduces more high-frequency detail.
- Domes: the Pro ships with closed domes, which some users find plugged-up; switch to the open tulip domes if your own voice sounds boomy.
- Price: the Beyond costs roughly $200 less.
Our take: if noisy rooms are your main problem, the Pro is worth the extra. If you mostly need help with TV and quiet conversation, the Beyond is excellent value.
Setting it up: the app and the hearing test
The Beyond Pro is self-fitting. You install the ELEHEAR app, pair the aids, and take a hearing test in a quiet room with the aids in. The app then sets the amplification for each ear automatically.
From the app you can change volume for each ear, switch between five listening programs, adjust tone from “brighter” to “deeper”, and set noise reduction. It also offers tinnitus relief sounds, a translation feature, and a mode that uses your phone as a remote microphone.
For a parent who is not comfortable with apps: a family member can do the setup and hearing test with them, and ELEHEAR offers remote help from hearing professionals through the app. After setup, day-to-day use mainly involves putting the aids in, taking them out and charging them.
See a doctor first if there is sudden hearing loss, loss in one ear, ear pain, drainage, dizziness or ringing in one ear.
Battery, comfort and handling
The Beyond Pro is rechargeable. Sources give about 20 to 24 hours per charge, which covers a full day. The portable case recharges the aids on the go and charges over USB-C, though a wall plug is not included.
It is a receiver-in-canal design: the body sits behind the ear and a thin wire carries the speaker into the ear canal. That makes it easier to handle than tiny in-canal aids, but HearingTracker notes it is larger than many rivals and more visible, especially on smaller ears.
It is rated IPX5, so sweat and light rain are fine, but it should not be worn in the shower or swimming.
Price, trial, warranty and paying for it
- Price: about $599 a pair list price from ELEHEAR, which often sells it for less direct. Check the current price on Amazon.
- Trial: 45 days from delivery, with a refund for returns within the window.
- Warranty: 1 year limited, covering defects.
- Paying: OTC hearing aids are usually FSA and HSA eligible. Original Medicare does not cover hearing aids; some Medicare Advantage plans include an allowance.
Use the full trial. Most people need one to two weeks to get used to hearing aids, and a few dome changes and app adjustments can make a large difference.
ELEHEAR vs Audien, MDHearing and Sennheiser
ELEHEAR vs Audien: Audien’s Atom series costs less and needs no app, but it is not fitted to your hearing the way ELEHEAR’s app-based test is. Choose Audien only if cost is the deciding factor.
ELEHEAR vs MDHearing: the MDHearing VOLT 4 is simpler, with buttons, no app and a behind-the-ear design, but it is basic in sound, and MDHearing’s lab-tested NEO XS scored far lower.
ELEHEAR vs Sennheiser All-Day Clear: a premium aid from a big audio brand, with Bluetooth calls on iPhone and Android, at a higher price. Compare both in our best hearing aids for seniors guide.
What ELEHEAR says
The following are ELEHEAR’s own marketing claims from the product listing, not our independent findings. Details can change over time — check the current Amazon listing for the latest.
- ELEHEAR describes the Beyond Pro as a self-fitting OTC hearing aid with VOCCLEAR 2.0 AI noise reduction, dual microphones, 16 adjustment bands and 64 processing channels.
- ELEHEAR lists Bluetooth 5.3 streaming and hands-free calls on iOS and Android, 5 listening programs, tinnitus relief sounds, translation and remote professional support through its app.
- The Beyond Pro is rechargeable with a portable charging case and rated IPX5; ELEHEAR offers a 45-day trial and 1-year limited warranty.
How it compares to other OTC hearing aids
The Beyond Pro is our top OTC pick because it combines a top independent lab grade, Bluetooth streaming and self-fitting at a mid-market price. Choose differently if you want no app at all or a premium brand.
- MDHearing VOLT 4 — a simple, button-only behind-the-ear aid with no app, at a lower price. Basic sound, but easy for a parent who will not use a phone.
- Sennheiser All-Day Clear — a premium big-brand OTC aid with conversation-based fitting and Bluetooth calls, at a higher price.
- ELEHEAR Delight — ELEHEAR’s small earbud-style model. More discreet, but with a much shorter battery life.

No. They are FDA over-the-counter hearing aids that are fitted to your hearing with an in-app test and use noise reduction and feedback cancellation. A personal sound amplifier simply makes everything louder.
For most people with mild-to-moderate loss who can use the app, yes. It delivers some of the best measured OTC sound, especially in noise, at a mid-market price. If you only need help in quiet rooms, the cheaper Beyond is excellent value.
