Why the warm-air dryer is the feature that actually matters here

Every bidet on our roundup washes with water. What separates the C2 from the non-electric attachments is what happens after: a three-setting warm-air dryer built into the seat. For someone who can't reach behind themselves to dry off — arthritis, a shoulder injury, limited flexibility from a stroke — that is not a luxury feature, it is the difference between a bidet that helps and one that leaves the hardest part of the task unsolved.

A non-electric attachment like the Neo 320 or TUSHY Classic 3.0 washes just as well for a fraction of the price. What they can't do is dry. If drying is the actual barrier, the C2's dryer is worth the jump in cost and complexity; if washing alone solves the problem, it isn't.

Controls: a fixed side panel, not a remote you can lose

This is worth calling out on its own, because it's easy to miss and it matters a lot for this audience. TOTO sells some Washlet models — the S550e and its successor the S7A among them — with a handheld wireless remote. The C2 does not. Its controls are a physical panel bolted to the side of the seat itself: buttons and dials for water temperature, pressure, seat temperature, and dryer temperature, all in one fixed place.

For a senior with early memory changes, that's one less thing to misplace. For anyone with reduced grip strength, it's one less small object to pick up and aim correctly. If a caregiver is the one operating it during assisted care, a fixed, predictable location beats hunting for a remote every time.

PREMIST and EWATER+: what the hygiene tech actually does

Two TOTO features come up constantly in the marketing, so here is what they actually do, in plain terms.

• PREMIST mists the inside of the bowl with water right before each use, so waste is less likely to stick and the bowl stays cleaner between full cleans — it does the bowl, not the wand.
• EWATER+ is what cleans the wand itself: TOTO electrolyzes ordinary tap water into a mild disinfectant, and the wand rinses in it both before and after each use, inside and out.

Neither replaces regular toilet cleaning. What they do is reduce the two things people worry about most with an electric bidet — a wand that sits exposed between uses, and a bowl that gets harder to keep clean — without adding any extra step for the person using it.

Installation and the GFCI requirement

The seat itself installs the way any toilet seat does — it replaces your existing seat, connects to the water supply the same way a non-electric bidet does, and plugs in. TOTO markets it as DIY-friendly, and mechanically it is.

The real planning question is electrical. Like any electric bidet seat, the C2 needs to sit near a grounded GFCI outlet — the ground-fault protection that's required near water for safety. If your bathroom already has one within reach of the toilet, installation is genuinely straightforward. If it doesn't, that's an electrician's visit before the seat itself goes in, and it's worth pricing that in before you buy rather than after the seat arrives.

Never run an extension cord to an electric bidet seat as a workaround — that's a real shock hazard next to water, not a shortcut.

Elongated or round? Measure before you buy

This is the single most common reason an electric bidet seat gets returned, and it's avoidable in thirty seconds. The C2 (model SW3074#01) fits elongated bowls only. TOTO sells a separate model, the SW3073, for round bowls — the two are not interchangeable.

• Measure from the center of the two bolt holes where your current seat attaches to the front rim of the bowl.
• Roughly 18 inches or more means an elongated bowl — the C2 will fit.
• Shorter than that, you have a round bowl and need the SW3073 instead.

If you're not sure after measuring, TOTO and most authorized retailers will confirm compatibility from that one measurement before you order.

A note on availability: the C2 is being phased toward the S2

Worth being upfront about, since it affects how confidently we can recommend buying new: TOTO has been steering the C2 out of production in favor of its successor, the S2, which adds a slimmer profile and instantaneous water heating. Some retailers list the C2 as discontinued with limited remaining stock rather than fully unavailable.

That doesn't make the C2 a bad buy today — the unit itself, and everything above, is unchanged — but if you're ordering new rather than picking one up at a discount, it's worth a quick check of current stock and price against the S2 before you commit, since the gap between them may be smaller than expected.
